A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY
Gabriola Medical Clinic
Gabriola Medical Clinic began in 1994. In 2012, we moved into a beautiful, modern, community-built building — the Gabriola Community Health Centre.
The doctors and staff aim to offer the best possible medical care to people on Gabriola Island. We believe the relationship between doctors, patients, and staff to be a partnership, working best when based on mutual trust and respect. We aim to follow this compact, published by the BC General Practice Services Committee, and we encourage you to, too.
You can find out more about the clinic by checking out our Clinic Achievements page where you’ll find relevant articles and videos relating to the clinic.
We will not tolerate abusive or offensive language or behaviour.
We gratefully acknowledge the Gabriola Health Care Foundation, which owns the Health Centre and generously supported the development of this website.
CURRENT UPDATES
Gabriola Medical Clinic News
NEW: Frequently Asked Questions for patients of Dr.’s Cusack and Clarke
How will patients be prioritized for attachment to a Primary Care Provider?
Dr.’s Cusack and Clarke will be prioritizing the most vulnerable and medically complex patients. A small number of patients will transition to one of the remaining practitioners as their new primary care provider.
What happens to the remainder of the patients?
For the remaining patients, you will remain on an open panel at the clinic. Our remaining practitioners will make every effort to continue to provide care.
What does “open panel” mean?
This means that while you will not be attached to a specific practitioner, you will remain a patient of the clinic. You can still call for an appointment for medication refills etc.
What do I do if I need an appointment?
Please call the clinic at 250-247-9922. We have changed to a majority same day access system to accommodate the community needs during this time.
Who will I see? / How long will I wait?
Patients will be offered appointments with their MD or NP and if they are not available you will be booked with the next first available practitioner on the same day. Wait times can vary depending on the clinic’s schedule, patient volume and severity of other cases however, our aim is to see people for most issues within a few days of their initial call to the clinic.
What can I do to help? What role do I play?

The Building
The clinic is grateful to occupy a wonderful building that was built by the community on Gabriola and is operated by the Gabriola Health Care Foundation. The story of how this clinic was built is remarkable. For more information, and for videos telling the clinic’s story, see the Foundation’s website.
Travel Assistance Forms
Travel assistance forms are available for eligible BC residents who need to travel within the province for non-emergency medical specialist services not available within their own community. Please call ahead with the name of the specialist or service and we can have the form ready for you quickly.
For information regarding medical assured loading, please see the BC Ferries news release.
Fees and Charges
The Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP) covers most necessary medical services for BC residents. Please refer to our Fee Schedule here for complete details.
Recruitment

The Gabriola Medical Clinic is a teaching clinic affiliated with the UBC Faculty of Medicine. You may see medical students working with your family practitioner during your appointment.
We believe there are around 800 patients on Gabriola who are not registered with a primary care provider. Our aim is that everyone on the island who wants a GP at our clinic can receive it.
During the pandemic, we’re doing our best to accommodate everyone on Gabriola. Call us on (250) 247-9922.
Please understand that we are not a walk-in clinic. For more information about our services during the pandemic, click here and for emergency care, click here.

We are so fortunate😍
Wonderful. It would be so amazing if the practice could be expanded to build the capacity needed to offer all residents of our island access to a local GP or NP. What a dream. What would be required to make that a reality? Sadly, the best I have managed is to secure a fabulous young female GP in Vancouver, 2 ferries, 2 buses or $230 by vehicle, and 8-10 hours round trip travel time for an in-person visit.
YES!!!!❤️🇨🇦👍💃🏼Thankyou!
I had to look up NA and MOA , hooray women!
Amazing. Thank you 🙏
